Arts and Craft Room

In 2023, significant changes were implemented in the Primary Section, where all three classes namely Kelas Zamrud, Kelas Baiduri, and Kelas Jed, were merged into a single class.

When individual classes have low attendance numbers, it can be challenging to maintain a productive learning environment. Merging classes with smaller enrollments helps ensure that there are enough students in one class for collaborative activities and a dynamic classroom atmosphere. Merging classes can help optimize the utilization of available teaching resources, ensuring that each class has adequate supervision and support, in case there is a shortage of teachers. This is also a cost-effective solution as it reduces the need for maintaining multiple classrooms, purchasing separate learning materials, and allocating resources for each class. This can lead to better resource allocation and financial efficiency for the educational institution.

In these classes, an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) is carried out to meet the needs of each child. Specific goals are set out for each child. Their abilities are graded in order to improve their learning and functional skills. Modifications on tables and chairs are carried out when the need arises. Visits to wet markets, supermarkets, parks, and other places of interest help to increase the children’s awareness of the environment around them.

The students in this new class were divided into four groups, each supervised by one of the four teachers who took turns overseeing each group. In addition to the modified Special Education Curriculum, computer-assisted lessons were also incorporated into the program. The classroom is equipped with two units of computer, one featuring a 50” screen, and two large adjustable tables fitted with castor wheels, allowing for flexibility in arrangement depending on the activities.

Furthermore, students had the opportunity to attend supplementary computer learning sessions at the AMD Learning Lab, which is equipped with a smart board and desktop computers equipped with special education software.

In addition to the aforementioned changes, it’s worth highlighting that arts and crafts activities have also been integrated into the educational program. These creative pursuits play a vital role in fostering the holistic development of the students. Through arts and crafts, students are encouraged to explore their artistic talents, enhance their fine motor skills, and stimulate their imagination.

These activities not only provide a break from traditional learning methods but also serve as a means of self-expression and creativity. Students have the opportunity to work on various projects, such as painting, sculpture, and handicrafts, allowing them to experiment with different materials and techniques.

By incorporating arts and crafts activities into the curriculum, the educational institution aims to provide a well-rounded and enriching learning experience for the students, nurturing not only their academic abilities but also their artistic and creative potential. These activities contribute to a more comprehensive and balanced educational approach that recognizes the importance of both cognitive and artistic development.
